New exhibition formats
Beside the aspect of long-time storage, another advantage of 3D technology is the use of virtual reproductions in hybrid exhibitions, thereby newly defining the visitor’s experience concerning interaction and reality. Collections and exhibits become accessible for visitors not just interactively but also independently of their whereabouts. While photographs cannot sufficiently reproduce the experience of real three-dimensional objects, 3D representations accessed via a web browser allow for a depiction from all sides that is close to reality within the framework of a “digital exhibition at home”.
In consideration of copyrights and related property rights, digitized material can be used for the development of apps, games, documentaries, tourism applications or educational content and can thus ensure a more intense visitor experience and new forms of participation.
